To get a Golden Rathian Egg, you must first ensure your game is updated to 1.5.1. On the title screen, look in the lower right corner, and it should say Ver. 1.5.1—once you have that, you're good to go.
Interact with any quest board in any village, access multiplayer mode and online play. Go to the Slay Quests tab and look in the list for the (Slay) Gold Rathian quest. This is a nine-star quest, so bring your best monsters with you. You can try this solo and receive an AI companion to help you. But compared to a real person, they are very insufficient.
Gold Rathian is weak against Thunder, so make sure you have those who can deal thunder damage, as well as all three attack types. Press Y, Z or Triangle to change group and choose your monsters after clicking change group.

Explore the area and locate Gold Rathian's lair. If you don't want to fight anything on your travels, bring a Nargacuga and use its stealth monster ability so you don't get mugged by monsters. You will arrive at your destination in peace.
This Flying Wyvern is no joke to fight. With massively damaging area attack moves and simple combo attack moves, you'll be fighting for your life.

Once Gold Rathian is defeated, you can raid the nest for eggs. Due to Gold Rathian being a rare form, the egg pattern has been changed slightly and is extremely difficult to find. Use the image below to find out which egg you are looking for – the egg is yellow with gold lines.
As usual, head to the den exit with your prize and make sure the egg is stocked. Then go hatch it to see if you were lucky enough to get Gold Rathian as Monstie. Otherwise, rinse and repeat.
