How to plant fruits and their prices

Fruits are a great source of extra income in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and when eaten they give you the energy you need to clear rocks and trees for good. Many players plant fruit trees and even entire orchards to maintain their supply.

Of course, you need to know how to plant fruit to start with an orchard or just grow foreign fruit on your island. Luckily, it's as simple as it gets.

In this guide, we'll not only look at how to plant fruit, but also fruit prices and your best bets for getting coconuts and other foreign fruit on your island.

How to Plant Fruit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

First, you need a shovel. You can get your first regular shovel or the DIY recipe for a flimsy shovel from Nook right from the start.

Second, you need fruit. Just shake a tree, pick it up, and you're good to go.

Now let's go:

  • Find a place where you want to plant a new fruit tree
  • Take out your shovel
  • Press the "A" button to dig a hole
  • Press the "X" button to open your inventory
  • Select the fruit you want to grow and press the "A" button
  • Select "Plant 1" and press the "A" button
  • That's really all you need to do!

How long does it take for the fruits to grow?

It can take two to five days for fruit to grow once a tree has fully grown or you pick all the fruit from a tree, as there is a bit of randomness in the growth patterns of the game .

Native fruit trees usually take two or three days to bear fruit.

Alien fruit trees can take three to five days to bear fruit. These fruits are best used for selling, rather than eating.

The coconuts seem to grow faster than the other two, although I haven't personally timed them yet.

Prices of native and foreign fruits

As with all other games in the series, fruits originating from other islands are worth more than fruits originating from yours.

If your island's native fruits are apples, then fruits like peaches, cherries, pears, etc. will sell for more. This is the case even after planting foreign fruit trees on your island.

    • Native fruits are worth 100 Bells
    • Coconuts are worth 250 Bells
    • Foreign fruits are worth 500 Bells

How to get coconuts and foreign fruits

As you can tell by their lower price, coconuts are a bit easier to get than most foreign fruits.

    How to get coconuts

You can get coconuts by taking trips using Nook Miles Tickets and harvesting them on deserted islands. These cost 2000 Nook Miles and send you to a randomly generated island.

All of these islands have scattered palm trees that you can shake on to receive two coconuts. I strongly recommend that you replant some at home!

    How to get foreign fruits

You might get lucky and ask your in-game mom to send you some non-native fruit, or a villager might be feeling particularly generous. However, the easiest way to get foreign fruit is to simply visit a friend who has a different native fruit on their island.

You can both take fruit and replant it at home, as easily as possible. Again, foreign fruits take longer to grow than your native fruits, but are well worth the little effort it takes to bring them home and plant them.
