To unlock crafting certain items in Raft, you'll need to research them through an in-game item; here's what you need to know and how to search for items in Raft.
How to search for crafting items in Raft
To search for objects in Raft, you will need to build a search table with 14 planks and two pieces of debris.
Obtaining these materials is not difficult; for planks, all you have to do is either harvest the planks as they appear in the ocean or chop down palm trees on islands with an axe.
If you don't already know, you can craft an ax with six planks, three stones, and two ropes.
Once you've gotten the boards, you'll still need scrap; to scavenge scrap metal, you just need to mainly search for barrels which will float in the ocean and usually contain up to six items.

You can also scavenge scrap from vacant rafts and around the reefs of certain islands in the game.
Once you get both items you can craft the search table and once placed you can search for items by placing them inside the table.
When the item is researched, the crafting recipe for that item will be unlocked and you can craft another item through the crafting recipe.
By the way, some items will require you to search for other items before you can search. For example, to search for a barrel, you will need to search for a plank, a scrap, and a rope.
