Immortals Fenyx Rising guide: tips, tricks and cheats

Ubisoft's comedy take on Greek mythology releases later this week, and we're here to tell you everything you need to know about Immortals Fenyx Rising. When you first get shipwrecked on the Golden Isles, it can all be a bit overwhelming. You immediately receive three awesome weapons once wielded by legendary heroes, and quickly learned the basics.

Soon after, you're also gifted with the power of flight – it's quite simple, but it's a lot to take in a short time. To make matters worse, Zeus and Prometheus do their best to tell your epic story, which results in spectacularly unfunny commentary on everything you do. Don't worry though - it gets better, as we explain in our Immortals Fenyx Rising Switch review.

What we are saying is that you should read our guide instead. I promise I won't make terrible jokes, so we've got this to ourselves, right? But in all seriousness, Immortals Fenyx Rising leaves quite a few things unexplained, including how to improve your stats, skills, and gear, so we're here to help you do just that. We'll start with the basics and update your stats, so feel free to skip to the section you need.

Here's what our Immortals Fenyx Rising guide contains:

The basics of combat

Combat is one of the most important parts of Immortals Fenyx Rising, as you won't be able to get very far without it. Although there is a stealth mechanic (just click A), most enemies will still see you if you get too close.

As we mentioned earlier, Fenyx spawns quickly on three weapons, and mastering them is critical to your success. Here's how to use each for the best chance of success:

Achilles Sword

This is your basic weapon, which deals fast attacks. Before any upgrades, you will deal 20 damage per swing with your sword, by pressing the R button – the right bumper.

Every three consecutive hits will trigger a combo, which deals additional damage and fills a portion of stamina by 40%. Just mash the R button and try not to get hit – use your dodge with Y to make sure you stay out of harm's way.

Hache d'Atlanta

The Atlanta ax is a typical heavy weapon, used by pressing ZR. This deals 32 damage per hit, and also starts filling up your enemy's stun gauge – when full, they'll be stunned and easier to take down. Her attacks can also hit multiple targets with her big moves, but she is much slower than the sword.

The ax also has a combo, after two consecutive hits. It works much the same as the sword combo.

One last thing about close combat is parrying. You unlock it a bit later in the game, but it works by pressing L and R at the same time to deflect an enemy's attack. It will also stun them briefly and fill their stun gauge.

Arch of Odysseus

Use your bow to hit enemies that are flying or that you generally don't want to get too close to. Press ZL to aim, then click ZR to launch a rapid fire. You can also hold down ZR to charge up a more powerful shot.

You can upgrade all weapons (more on that later) and find different variants of the sword, axe, and bow that will grant you various buffs and perks. Luckily, you can also customize each one's appearance without affecting stats - so if you find an ax that grants you a big buff but doesn't suit your tastes, you can just mix and match the skin to the skill.

driving lessons

The flight is quite intuitive. First, you need to climb something high. Luckily, there are plenty of tall landmarks in the Golden Isles, so take your pick.

Then, jump by hitting B. When you're in the air, press A to spread your wings and start gliding. Use your left stick to control your movement, and Zeus is your uncle. Not literally.

Flying consumes stamina at a fairly rapid rate, but don't worry about wearing yourself out because if you're on normal difficulty or lower, your wings will let you down gently no matter how high you are.

increase your health bar

Fenyx begins its epic journey with three meager health bars, but you can soon upgrade them to take more hits. In the meantime, use your Y button and keep dodging.

First, you need to unlock the Hall of Gods, which is pretty much right after you complete the tutorial. Once you're there, you have access to a plethora of upgrade systems, including the Kylix of Athena.

Collect six servings of Ambrosia to upgrade your first chunk of extra health, then return to see how much you need to collect for the next chunk. You can boost your health 12 times, so we imagine it gets quite expensive by the later bits.

increase your stamina

Raising your stamina works much the same as your health – you just need a different currency, the Lightning of Zeus. You get a flash of this every time you complete a dungeon – one of those mini red volcanoes that send you through a portal to Tartaros – and for completing other missions.

Bring your bottled eclair to Zeus' bench, enjoy a practice mount and another chunk of stamina for your troubles.

How to unlock new skills

Unlocking new godly skills and powers also happens in the Hall of Gods. To unlock skills, head to the Styx River Cistern and spit out some Charon Coins.

You find Coins of Charon in chests and by completing puzzles throughout the Golden Isles. You may have noticed giant lyres and puzzle-like frescoes: they reward you with Charon Coins, which in turn unlock new skills and god-like powers.

upgrade your weapons and armor

Upgrading your weapons and armor also takes place in, you guessed it, the Hall of Gods. You need adamantine shards of different colors to improve your sword, axe, and bow damage. You can also upgrade your armor, helmet, number of arrows, and number of potions you can hold with different colored shards.

You get Adamantine Shards by killing mobs and enemies, so the more fights you engage in, the better your weapons can be upgraded. There are also large Adamantine crystals spread across the Golden Isles, but they are rare.
