How does Warcraftlogs work?
Simply summarized, Warcraft logs is a tool that collects data from your encounters against your enemies. This tool has two specific purposes,
- Analyze your data and compare it to other players who play the same class as you.
- It allows you to see what you did right and what mistakes you made afterwards, allowing you to improve, whether it's in terms of the damage you deal or the healing you provide.
But then what are logs and how can I save them?
The "Logs" are the data recorded during an encounter against an enemy, be it the spells used, the damage suffered, the care provided or the buffs you had.
In short, the Logs show all data without exception! It is therefore a super effective tool for tracking down your errors and those of your allies. To save your logs, you just need to create your account on Warcraftlogs, you will then need to link your Battle net account to your account Warcraftlogs.
The next step will be to download the client the Warcraft logs it is this one that will allow you to collect your data and those of your teammates during your fights. The client will present themselves like this:
You will then have three options
- Journal direct which allows you to publish your logs in real time on the site each time an enemy is encountered
- Download a newspaper gives you the option to download or not your logs when you have just finished the entire encounter whether in raid or dungeon
- Split a log allows you to split a log file into several parts to better organize yourself.
You will then have to choose a folder to host your logs and adjust some settings, do you want to save your whole guild ou only you ? Which zone do you play on? Europe, America, etc?
Would you like your data to be public, private, or unlisted ? If you choose the penultimate option, then only those who have the link of the logs will be able to see them, while the last option allows guild members to be the sole spectators of your logs.
Okay, now what?
The rest will happen in the game, you will have to go to the game options by pressing escape, then "Options", then "Network" where you will find the "Advanced combat log" option which you will have to check.
Once the option is checked, you should use the command " /combatlog » before each log recording. You just have to go to Raid or dungeon, click on "Let's go" in the application Warcraft logs and There you go ! Your data is saved, you just have to reuse the command once the fight is over and click "Stop" in the application.
You can now find all your logs on the website of Warcraft logs ! It's up to you to be curious and compare yourself to other players in your class. You can then navigate through the various options, in order:

- The damage inflicted
- The damage suffered
- The care provided
- The threat
