PS5 Digital Edition vs PS5: What's the difference?

There is only one major difference between the PS5 vs. PS5 Digital Edition, and this is the 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc Player. The PS5 Digital Edition does not include a disc drive, unlike the PS5. This means that there are obvious aesthetic differences between the two devices, as the PS5 Digital Edition has a slightly smaller profile due to the lack of a disk drive. This also means that physical media cannot be played on the PS5 Digital Edition, including PS5 and PS4 games, DVDs, and Blu-ray 4K UHD movies. For more information, see our guide: PS4 5K UHD Blu-ray: Can PlayStation 5 play them?

There will also be a PS5 price difference between PS5 Digital Edition and PS5, although until Sony confirms the price of the console we will not know what the size will be. Some speculate that selecting the PS5 Digital Edition could save you up to $50.

PS5 Digital Edition vs PS5: which one to buy?

The PS5 Digital Edition and the PS5 are both good options, so it will entirely depend on your taste. If you plan to buy all your PS5 games from the PlayStation Store, it might be worth saving money and space with the PS5 Digital Edition. However, it should be kept in mind that you never be able to purchase and play physical games on the PS5 Digital Edition, including any retail titles you may have purchased for the PS4.

The PS5, on the other hand, will give you a bit more flexibility, allowing you to use a combination of physical and digital media. If you own retail PS4 games, you'll be able to play them, although both consoles support backward compatible games purchased from the PlayStation Store.

Will you buy the PS5 Digital Edition or the PS5? Let us know in the comments section below, and be sure to check out our Guide PS5 for much more information.
