River Raids have arrived in Assassin's Creed Valhalla as part of a free update. Patch 1.012 on PS5 and PS4 released on February 16, 2021. In this Assassin's Creed Valhalla guide, we'll go over everything you need to know about River Raids, including the exclusive rewards you get for playing them.
What are river raids and how do they work?
In a nutshell, River Raids are open maps with a number of locations you can raid. These maps are separate from the maps of England and Norway in the main game and can only be accessed by talking to a character named Vagn in your settlement. There are three River Raid maps in total (although more may be added in future updates).
You travel to these maps with your Viking crew, who will help you raid farms, villages, monasteries, and military encampments. The overall goal is to collect Alien Supplies – a resource that can be spent to upgrade a new building in your settlement. Foreign supplies can also be used to purchase new cosmetic items in Vagn.
River Raids are designed to be replayable. Each card has dynamic elements that change with repeated visits. For example, locations can summon more enemy reinforcements if the map has already been attacked. The rewards and type of enemies you fight can also change.
How to Start River Raids in Assassin's Creed Valhalla
To start a River Raid, you must have downloaded and installed Assassin's Creed Valhalla patch 1.012.
After the update is complete, you will find a new character named Vagn in your settlement near the old wharf. It is marked with a new quest icon on the map. Just start this quest and you will be raiding soon.
Needless to say, you will only be able to find Vagn if you have progressed through the story to the point where Eivor and their clan have settled in England. It should also be noted that River Raids are designed to be quite difficult. If you're having trouble, consider playing more of the game's story to upgrade Eivor's skills and gear.
Either way, talking to Vagn will launch you for your first River Raid. You will learn more about the River Raid system during this quest, which basically serves as a tutorial.
