Harry Potter: Wizards Unite guide

It doesn't take a genius to notice the myriad parallels Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has with Niantic's other Walkabout games - most notably the mega popular Pokémon Go. You probably wouldn't have thought JK Rowling's Wizarding World would rival the natural collection that exists in Pokémon, but Niantic has found a way. These similarities mean that it's pretty straightforward for a Pokémon Go player to jump straight into this game with little to no knowledge of the Harry Potter franchise.

Wizards Unite is a much chattier game than Pokémon Go to begin with; there is real history and everything! But the in-game tutorials can only go so far. Just because he holds your hand for quite a while doesn't mean it tells you absolutely everything a good wizard needs to know.

So we've put together some tips and created a Harry Potter: Wizards Unite guide to help you thrive in the wicked world of magic. I hope we will be able to answer all of your magical questions, but more importantly, give you a head start on all other students. Remember, you are an assistant, *insert player name*!

FOUNDABLE POINTS OF INTEREST

Most of what you'll do in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite focuses on filling out the Registry. This is where all of your Foundables are saved when you return them via Traces. Foundables are cataloged in different types, but it can be difficult to reliably find specific types to help fill out the Registry, as more areas will spawn random Foundables than you may find useful. But there is a way to more reliably generate the additional Foundable types you need to complete a specific page in your registry or increase your rank.

While walking around, you can sometimes come across tall, thin flags rising from the map. Tap one of them and you'll see an area around it light up. These are designated areas where specific types of trails appear – the type depending on the point of interest it marks. There's no surefire way to track them down, but areas like parks, libraries, and government buildings are usually prime candidates. My local sports club is one, but my little library is not. One more town, however, has a bigger library. It's worth going out. If you want advice on where to find what, our Harry Potter: Wizards Unite locations guide will help you on your way.

POTIONS DOUBLE XP

Now, maybe this is just an oversight on my part, but it took me a while to find them in my bag. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has a heavy emphasis on potions, but most of the time they're used to power up your spells or replenish your stamina in battles. You're always told to save them for tough situations, so slipping in those potent bottles of leveling juice - okay, Baruffio's brain elixir. I only discovered them when I hit level ten, and would my boy have sped the whole process up.

Double XP potions are best saved for high level fights, or when collecting lots of Foundables. Potions are also able to double XP gained from the already substantial new Foundable bonus, so using them when surrounded by Foundables at an early level can catapult new players to level ten much faster. And this is where things really start to heat up.

Do not use PORTCOATS for XP

In the early days of Pokémon Go, the ideal time to use a Lucky Egg was when several Ten Kilometer Eggs were ready to hatch. Indeed, they have already given a massive amount of XP which could then be doubled for a quick boost. Unfortunately, this doesn't work the same way in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. You can find decent amounts of XP in portals, but when you have no idea what you'll actually get, using a valuable XP potion is more often than not a wasted effort. If you can, save them for when it really matters.

FONDABLES CAN ESCAPE

Another element taken straight from Pokémon Go, is the ability for Foundables to disappear when you fail to trap them. If you had a founding fault of existence after an unsuccessful trace, this is RNG showing its ugly face. You will occasionally receive a notice telling you what happened, but sometimes not. Worse still, the review only explains how, but never why.

There's no solid evidence yet, but the conditions are a perfect match for Pokémon Go, so it's safe to assume that, just like Niantic's other big collect-athons, each Foundable has a specific percentage of "leak rate". ". After each resist of a spell, the game rolls a figurative die determining if your precious target will be taken away. Rare found items have a higher chance of leaking, making the use of spell-enhancing potions increasingly valuable.

Make Daily Challenges Count

He's the one who ruined my day more than once. If you're the type of person who gets addicted to virtual checklists, the Daily Assignments tab will soon be your new best friend. The challenges inside are the same every day, so it's pretty natural to get out of the house, fire up the game, and go about your daily business.

But you come home after completing your tasks and notice that he hasn't counted a single one. Why? Because you need to open the daily challenge page every day before you start counting your progress. It's a ruthless design choice that Niantic should really work to fix. In fact, it might already be fixed by the time you read this. Just check before you waste your time and energy.

PROFESSION SCROLLS REGISTRATION PRICES

If you're wondering how to get more scrolls and books to improve your profession, know that it's not about fighting your way through the different levels of a fortress. Scrolls and Tomes can be acquired by ranking up your Registry pages, so it may be useful to use our Zone cheat above to exploit levels in your weaker Registry pages, filling your Profession skill tree more quickly.

GESTURES ACCELERATE POTIONS

This is something you'll only really learn by tapping the cauldron on the Potions screen. Gestures can be used to speed up potion crafting by around 15%, giving you quicker access to tasty infusions and an empty slot to start over. But understanding them is up to you.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite guide

There's a multi-step gesture sequence for every potion in the game. We can't list them all here, but a quick Google search will take you a long way. Once you've used the unique sequence on three of the same potions, it will be saved to your game for quick reference. They also won't make you talk about your phone in public, as all on-screen gestures are swipes and pinches. Although there are occasional phone shakes.

WEATHER CHANGES EVERYTHING

This one might take a little longer to comment on reliably. Much like Pokémon Go, the weather in your area can have dramatic effects on your game patterns. Rain, sun, wind, and even clouds in the sky will alter things like spawns. You'll mostly notice a change in the types of ingredients you find while traveling, but the weather will also change the Foundables you encounter. They'll never outright deny certain spawn things, but they can dramatically increase or decrease the likelihood.

DATA ASSETS TO SAVE DATA

When you first grab the game from your app store of choice, you'll notice that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite doesn't download all of its files directly. Whether to speed up access or to save space, it will only download the absolutely essential items initially, and the rest will be downloaded later. This means that every time you tap a new Foundable in the field, you spend your precious data plan downloading the 3D model, animations, and sounds. With so many graphical elements in Wizards Unite, it can really start to whittle away at your data. However, if you have unlimited data, go crazy and press to your frivolous heart's content.
