How to Get Gears in Timberborn

One of the most important factors in the growth of cities, even with colonies of beavers, is the increase in the means of production. To ensure that your Timberborn colony stays nourished and has the resources to thrive and survive droughts, you will need factories that produce materials. Before you can build these factories, however, you'll need a crucial resource: gears. Here's everything you need to know about them.

Timberborn: How to Unlock Gears

How to Get Gears in Timberborn

We'll start from square one, assuming you've just created your new world. The first step is to generate electricity, which will be used to power the gear shop where the gears are produced. To do this, you are going to have to build a waterwheel in one of your rivers. Flowing water will spin the wheel and generate energy for you.

If you want to increase the power, you can do so by increasing the flow of the river by creating a bottleneck with dams. The smaller the space for water flow, the faster it will spread. Next, you want to connect this waterwheel to a sawmill. The gear workshop will come a bit later.

The sawmill is where the planks will be mass-produced, which are a necessary resource for crafting gears. Depending on how many gears you plan to use, you can install additional sawmills and waterwheel if you feel the need. Keep playing until you have accumulated 100 research points, after which you can unlock the Equipment Workshop.

Build and connect a gear workshop to a water wheel. At this point, gear production will begin, using boards generated by your sawmill at a 1:1 input/output ratio. Now that you have gears being made, build yourself a warehouse to store them.
