Monster Hunter Rise is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter series. Although it originally launched on Nintendo Switch, it has since been ported to PC. This means that a whole new group of monster hunters will rise. But beginners may have trouble with the game's controls, especially how to lock onto monsters.
To lock monsters in Monster Hunter Rise you will need to press the Q key on a mouse and keyboard or press the right analog stick on a controller. Once locked, PC players can press the Q button again to switch between targets, while controller players must press the L button.

Locking onto monsters is a great way to ensure you're attacking the right monster while keeping it in your line of sight. The last thing you want to do is lose sight of the monster and get hit in the back. Likewise, you'll want to make sure you're targeting the right monster to kill.
Once you've locked onto a monster, it will have a gold border around it to identify that it's locked. After you lock it, you just have to moan on it until the monster is defeated!
