Rainbow Six Mining Tips & Tricks Guide: Tactics for Every Excursion

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction is a fun fusion of tactical shooter mechanics and an encroaching alien sci-fi premise. Your enemies, the Archaeans, are varied and possess strange abilities, and various excursion objectives put all of your Operators in direct danger - and you'll likely pay the price if you don't have certain tips and tricks up your sleeve.

All you have are your weapons, your wits, a few cool gadgets, and a handful of class abilities. That's more than enough for skilled Operators to succeed, and this Rainbow Six Extraction guide will highlight a few tips and tricks that will help you stay alive while completing objectives.

Rainbow Six mining tips and tricks

Stealth is king

All hell is ready to break loose at any moment in R6E, and stealth is your best bet to avoid that and stay alive against Archaeans. The vast majority of the time, there's one tip to keep in mind: you should walk crouched down to avoid making too much noise.

Check around corners and avoid enemy sight lines as much as possible. Most Operators can equip a suppressor to either their primary or secondary weapon. You should always carry at least one stealth weapon. This will allow you to complete some undetected objectives.

Eliminate smear

The black goo everywhere is Sprawl. It slows your movement and makes Archaeans more deadly. It's also easy to remove with this simple trick: just pull it out.

You never know when a fight is going to break out, so it's almost always worth spending the time and ammo to get rid of any Sprawl. In particular, any area around an objective should be almost completely clear before you begin performing your tasks.

Smoke them if you have them

The very first grenade you are given in Rainbow Six Extraction is the Smoke Grenade, but don't let that convince you that it's not one of the best. Smoke grenades will blind Archaeans, and there's so much use for that. You can throw one into a crowd to allow you to sneak past. Or you can blind a group of enemies before taking them out one by one.

One trick is to use smoke grenades to block one direction while you fight enemies in another. You can even smoke an enemy right above you and immediately use your knife for a takedown. It can save your entire operation when given the biopsy objective, requiring you to take down a specific undetected enemy with your blade.

Go strong, quietly

Yes, stealth is generally best in Rainbow Six Extraction, but that doesn't mean you have to be quiet. Firing a gun or creating an explosion will not trigger the enemy's summoning howl. Some very powerful weapons can't be removed, and that's fine if you just take out all the enemies around you.

Explosions can actually be very useful for knocking down weak walls or luring Archaeans to a location. The invisible is not detected, even if you racketeer.

Prepare before you start Objectives

R6E is an alien shooter for the thinking man. One tip to always keep in mind is that preparation is the best part of bravery. Take the time to prepare before attempting to achieve a goal.

  • Eliminate enemies in the immediate vicinity.
  • Destroy the nests.
  • Close open doors.
  • Block the openings using the barricades in your inventory.

If you're doing an objective like Sabotage, where you have to defend from bombs, set up useful gadgets like mines and auto turrets. For Specimen, where you need to lure an Archaeans into a trap, clear the path between the two. Starting to work on a goal should be one of the last things you do, not the first.

ABS: Always be on the lookout

R6E is much harder if you don't know where the enemies are. Locating Archaeans should be the very first thing you do when entering a sub-zone. Drive the reconnaissance drone to spot and tag enemies. Throw swipe grenades before entering rooms blind or use operator abilities that detect movement. Whatever you do, be sure to collect information and move based on that information.

Know your health

Health in R6E comes in two varieties. Each operator has 100 standard health points, represented by white in the health bar. This cannot be picked up during a raid, knocking out your favorite characters if it drops too low.

Temporary health, represented by blue, can be increased at any time. Any damage done to your Operator comes from temporary health first. As long as you maintain your standard health, you will remain fit for duty. Once this starts to decrease, you should seriously consider heading to an extraction point, whether you've reached your goal or not. Otherwise, you risk your operator becoming MIA.

Shoot holes or peek through walls

This trick is not very obvious when you start playing Rainbow Six Extraction. Be sure to pay attention to the walls. Your special UV flashlight will reveal enemies on the other side of destructible walls. This allows you to take them out of another room without anyone noticing anymore. You can even shoot small holes large enough to launch your scout drone into, allowing you to spot a room with relative safety.

Too subtle? You can still be like the Kool-Aid man and burst through walls, using explosives, Sledge's Hammer, or shotgun blasts at poles. This is great for knocking down enemies and going straight from A to B.

These tips and tricks are just the start when it comes to being an elite operator in Rainbow Six Extraction. Feel free to experiment and try new things. You can always refer to these tips as a reminder when you need them.
