S-tier characters
Leon

Leon is the best offensive character in Tales of Crestoria PvE, which makes him a super effective fighter in PvP mode.
His passive ability also increases the attack of all allies by 10%. Since Leon has a low turn count, his Mystic Art will not only be able to generate a series of powerful hits, but will also apply a curse status effect.

Velvet is the only other character in Tales of Crestoria whose power level can compare to Leon's.
Although she has the same passive skill as Leon, her very high OL gauge cost will cause her to stall a bit during turns. This means that she doesn't have as high a level of hit generation as Leon, and therefore can't be used to her maximum potential so easily.
However, she can still deliver some of the heaviest punches in the game, and if you use her as an opener, she'll do a great job.

A-level characters
Cress

Watercress is a very balanced and diverse killer. His stats are neither too high nor too low. But its biggest selling point is its unique set of artes.
For example, his Phoenix Dance arte has a 30% chance to burn on a single target, which adds to overall damage.
Additionally, his passive ability gives all Sword-type units a 3% chance to reset their Arte Turn Count, helping them generate more hits per turn.

Kanata

Much like Cress, this character has a very balanced set of stats. Kanata is also one of the few units in the game that can hit multiple enemy targets at once.
His mystical arte Cursed Bladeshadow has immense attack power, which increases damage by 380%. Very few characters have such a high attack rate. This makes Kanata an excellent finisher.

B-tier characters
Kanonno
- Attack: 3600
- Defense: 2350
- HP: 24000
Kanonno combines high damage and low turn count, making it one of the best offensive units in the game.
She is also a Longsword-type unit, which means she can be paired well with Kanata.
One of Kanonno's coolest aspects is his passive ability that provides 15% health restoration to Longsword-type units when a successful break is made.

Miss

Misella is a support unit whose passive ability increases the defenses of all allies by 15%.
His Heal Aid arte restores 45% HP to a single target, and his Igniting Pillar arte has a 40% chance to cast Burn on a single enemy.
This makes Misella a very versatile character with great defensive and offensive tools.

Chronos

Chronos is an ultimate AoE character. All of his artes focus on dealing with multiple enemies at once.
His Bit Force and Chronos Collider artes deal 120% damage to at least two enemy targets within range of his aim.
He's not as strong as Kanata when it comes to AoE damage, but he can be a great alternative if you're looking for such a unit type for your team composition.
The best memoria stone for Chronos is his own stone.
