To get sugar cubes, you must first have baked at least one billion cookies. Once you do, an in-game message will inform you about the sugar cubes and your first sugar cube will begin to grow. Once it's ripe, just click on the sugar cube to harvest it. If you forget to harvest it, don't worry because it will harvest automatically.

This is the main method to get sugar cubes. Other ways include clicking on a golden cookie with the sweet effect, harvesting a juicy beetroot, or sacrificing a log full of seeds in the garden. These are all rare events, so best to harvest ripe sugar cubes. Harvesting them before they are ripe has a 50% chance of not harvesting anything.
Sugar cubes are used to level buildings. Upgrading your buildings increases its cookie production by one percent. Upgrading your buildings will increase the cost of the sugar cubes needed to upgrade it further. Upgrading Farms, Banks, Temples, and Wizard Towers will unlock the Garden, Stock Exchange, Pantheon, and Grimoire mini-games respectively. There are five types of sugar cubes. These are:
