After completing the Treasure of the Desert quest, Old School RuneScape players receive the important letter from a messenger. Once destroyed, it can no longer be obtained by a messenger.
The Frozen Door mini-quest begins when you read the letter.
To receive the letter, players must:
- 70 Agility
- 70 hit points
- 70 remote
- 70 Force

To complete the quest, players need:
- A grapple Mith
- A crossbow
- Two ropes to reach the Saradomin camp
- A Warhammer hammer or dragon.
The letter reads as follows:
cher [player name],
Unfortunately, we haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet, but I have been a great admirer of your work for some time. I recently acquired some information that I found quite exciting and wanted to share with you.
Deep beneath Trollheim there is an ancient dungeon where four armies are locked in endless battle. In this dungeon, there is a frozen door behind which hides a treasure like no other. However, the door was sealed long ago by the leaders of the four armies.
I believe the treasure behind this door will be of great interest to you. If I am correct in this assumption, then seek out the leaders of the four armies. Each of them should have a piece of the key needed to unlock the door. Assemble the key and you will have everything you need.

Excerpt from the important letter
Although he identifies himself as an "admirer", the author of the letter intentionally tricks the player into opening the old prison, where Nex, one of Zaros' most powerful generals, is imprisoned.
