What are the Ninpo in Ninja Gaiden Sigma?
Ninpo are scrolls that you can collect or buy. They give Ryu new abilities in combat. For the above two ninpo, Ryu can summon flames that surround The Art of the Fire Wheels, giving him protection. Additionally, he can detonate a plume of flame with The Art of the Inferno like The Legend of Korra.
However, you cannot go willy-nilly with these powers. You have to wait for Ryu's Ki power to return after a while. You can replenish Ki by drinking Devil's Way Elixir and similar items. As you progress through the game, you will earn more Ki with specific items that increase the meter. Your Ki is indicated by the flame(s) below your health bar.
How to equip Ninpo
Go to the main menu and toggle on Equipment. Next, press right on the D-Pad and drop down to Ninpo. Press right again and then you can select your favorite ninpo with the confirmation button.
How to use your equipped Ninpo
You are now ready to use your elemental abilities. Simultaneously press your projectile button and the heavy attack button. If you have the flame in the top left of the screen, you will be able to use your attack. Make sure it comes at the right time and isn't wasted as Ki is slow to replenish.
